The overall function of the shoe is great. I have been wearing them for ten years. I have tried other motion control shoes, being swayed by saving a few bucks and color choices, but have always come back. I do hate they are most expensive shoe on the market. They don't seem to be competitively priced. If the price is the price, you'd think there would be fun color choices, especially since other Brooks shoes comes in these fun colors and competitors also have these fun colors. Why does this shoe need to remain in the dark ages of looking more like an orthopedic shoe?

On the advice of my podiatrist, I've worn the Ariel for 4 years now. I used to LOVE the shoe. I started wearing the new model a year ago and am SO UNHAPPY!!! The shoe fits totally different. The narrower toe bed is very uncomfortable. Also, the heel fits higher in back. It rubs up against my ankle bone and pulls my sock down in the back. My podiatrist insists that I wear this shoe to correct several other problems I have (neuromas, wide feet, high instep, shredded achilles tendon). I've tried several different lacing techniques and nothing works. I've gotten used to the way the shoe hits my ankle bone, but the sock pull down is EXTREMELY ANNOYING. I've been scouring the web to find the older version of the shoe, but can't find my size. It's time for me to buy another pair of running shoes and I've made an appointment with my podiatrist to find another shoe.

Wanted: Fun Colors!

By ERun

from Milwaukee, WI

About Me Casual/ Recreational

Pros

  • Comfortable
  • Good Arch Support
  • Pronation Control

Cons

    Best Uses

    • Endurance Training
    • Gym

These shoes are incredibly comfortable and give awesome support. I saw a difference in my gait almost immediately. They are wonderful compared to what I had been wearing.
However, can we please get a few color options? These are dull and boring. With so many fun colors out there, it's kind of a bummer that the shoe that is most comfortable and supportive is also one of the most boring.

I have been wearing the Arial for years. They actually allowed me to walk and start running after Plantar fasciitis. I honestly don't know why companies have to change something that works. I will have to now go on the search for a different shoe. Very sad and worried it will change my lifestyle.

          Great for arthritic feet

          Best Uses

          • Walking
          • With Orthotics/Inserts

I use this shoe for walking shoes. They stop arthritic pain as soon as I put them on. They do, however, seem to wear quickly (3 months of walking only). I walk toward the outside of my feet and I have had to replace these shoes because they tend to tip to the side too quickly. The top of the shoe hardly looks worn. I will continue to buy them as they are the one pair that gives my sore feet comfort!

My feet are 7.5 long but wide; most shoe stores try to put me in an 8 and think the extra length makes up for no width! I love that these shoes came with 2 width choices. I got the extra wide because athletic shoes have so much padding that even wides are hard to lace up with much shoestring left over to tie a bow.

My walking friends told be to get running shoes not walking shoes because there is more padding and boy, were they correct.

          Bring back the old Ariel

          By libbys

          from Charlotte, NC

I too wore the Ariel for years. This shoe simply didn't work for me. My heel rolled up and down, it ran long, and pulled my sock down. I couldn't downsize since I wear a 7EE. Dear Brooks - can you please let us know if you are remodeling this style and when? In the meantime, I discovered I can fit in the Dyad. It doesn't help with pronation, but at least it fits!! Many thanks.
