The name is no coincidence: runners just can't get enough of the tried and true support in the Addiction 11. We maintained its generous DNA-ified ride for cushioning and support that adapts to your needs, and added more in-shoe comfort like a better sockliner and an asymmetrical upper with suede overlays. DNA Midsole

What is it?

Brooks DNA is an innovative and uniquely adaptive cushioning system. By adapting to your specific weight, pace, gait and running surface, DNA offers customized cushioning and adds a spring to your step.

Traditional cushioning takes a one-size-fits-all approach, but we know that each runner is different. Brooks DNA was developed to continuously tailor the level of cushioning to your specific needs – even as they change during the run.

How does it work?

Brooks DNA is made up of a highly viscous non-Newtonian material or more simply put, a material that adapts to the specific force you apply to it. Part of the brilliance is that this compound was engineered to perform at the molecular level (picture millions of resilient 'nanosprings').

If you looked at Brooks DNA through a microscope, you'd see that it's made up of individual molecules connected in strands. These strands (which form chains) react to the amount of force placed on the foot, dispersing pressure and providing resiliency. Bottom line of this physics lesson: You get tailored cushioning that reacts to your specific weight, pace, gait, movement and running environment – "made-for-me" cushioning vs. "one size fits all."

And, as with all good technology, we’ve taken it a step further (two steps actually):

  • BioMoGo DNA is DNA technology blended with the BioMoGo midsole to provide adaptive cushioning throughout the midsole vs. just in the heel and forefoot.
  • BioMoGo DNA midsole includes an organic, non-toxic additive that biodegrades the midsole 50 times faster than traditional EVA when it comes into contact with anaerobic landfill microbes (otherwise known as active, enclosed landfills).

  • 30% more cushioning than standard midsole materials (gel or EVA)
  • Twice as much energy return for more pep in your step
  • Great performance no matter your weight or running pace
  • Smoother transition from heel to toe

Segmented Crash Pad

What is it?

The Segmented Crash Pad customizes your foot's lay-down to provide amazing cushion and smooth heel-to-toe transition throughout the run.

How does it work?

We know that a key component of maximizing your run is to provide the smoothest possible heel-to-toe transition. The Segmented Crash Pad is one technology we use to achieve this goal.

Shaped like a caterpillar, the Segmented Crash Pad is a midsole made up of independent, yet fully integrated shock absorbers. As your foot strikes the ground, the segments work together to customize your individual lay down to provide the right amount of cushion and seamless heel-to-toe transition for you – making the most of all that effort you put into each stride.

I am a new runner only been at this for a few months I was originally fit for running shoes into a Saucony guide 7 and they were wonderful, but after a month I began to have lots of knee pain in one leg and my calf felt stiff. After going to another local running store they showed me on camera how my pronation was still quite exaggerated in the Sauconys and they had me try a few additional shoes to see how they felt and how they looked on the camera. My knee was still sore and bothering me from my run this morning, and I the other shoes I tried helped a little bit and were definitely an improvement both in feel and on camera, but once I tried these addictions I was addicted. The pain went away, you could see on camera that my pronation had been tamed. I'm very excited to go running tomorrow and plan to try and get 7-10k in tomorrow. I run 5~6 times a week and normally at least 5k/day since taking this all up 2 months ago. I've been pleased with other brooks items I've purchased and am very excited with the initial results from these. They are noticeably heavier than my other shoes and seem to be heavier than the saucony equivalent, but the support for my feet in these is just so far superior to the other shoes I have tried.

Upon the advice of my awesome podiatrist, I tried on my first pair of Brooks Addiction and fell in love. I have plantar fasciitis and I have used Addiction for over 10 years. I think I got my first pair back in 2000 or 2001. I use it every day for everything; from gym to walking to shopping, etc. I loved the Addiction because it gave me stable and strong support. I walked better with it. Better yet, the pain went away within a year. The soles were not shaped like peanuts (my doctor forbade me to use those kind of shoes) and my doctor advised me to not buy bendy shoes because they do not prevent my feet from over-flexing. I was addicted to these pairs; I bought two each year, sometimes three. I didn't have to wear my custom orthopedics with these shoes. Now, I am seriously debating whether or not to continue with the Addiction shoe. In the past two years, since Addiction 10, I have noticed my plantar fasciitis creeping back. I noticed that with the 10, there was a certain sponginess that was not there before. It felt more springy, softer, bendy. I contributed it to the "new materials" that were introduced with the 10. It got worse with the 11. It got so bad that in a moment of painful desperation, I put in my custom orthopedics. I think I saw a pink pig zooming by in the sky that day or maybe I was hallucinating from the pain. I did something I hadn't done for 10 years; I grabbed the 11 shoe and bended it between my hands. I was shocked, incredibly angry and disappointed to discover that the Addiction was incredibly bendy and this was a new pair. Addiction is supposed to be for control. Pfft. More like a neutral shoe nowadays. It used to be so great. It used to be so solid, now it's as limp as a wet noodle. Brooks, what happened??? Did someone run too much and fall asleep on the designing board and his/her drool destroyed the designs??? Bring back the old Addiction. Please!!!!!!! Or more pigs will fly and I will have to find a replacement for my beloved Brooks Addiction.

Comments about Addiction 11:

I've been buying Brooks "The Beast" or "Addiction" shoes for years, usually at the rate of four pairs annually. They serve me well as both my everyday shoe and my workout shoe. When I'm out of them and in other shoes, it doesn't take long for my feet to feel fatigued. That never happens in my Brooks.
