DNA Midsole

What is it?

Brooks DNA is an innovative and uniquely adaptive cushioning system. By adapting to your specific weight, pace, gait and running surface, DNA offers customized cushioning and adds a spring to your step.

Traditional cushioning takes a one-size-fits-all approach, but we know that each runner is different. Brooks DNA was developed to continuously tailor the level of cushioning to your specific needs – even as they change during the run.

How does it work?

Brooks DNA is made up of a highly viscous non-Newtonian material or more simply put, a material that adapts to the specific force you apply to it. Part of the brilliance is that this compound was engineered to perform at the molecular level (picture millions of resilient 'nanosprings').

If you looked at Brooks DNA through a microscope, you'd see that it's made up of individual molecules connected in strands. These strands (which form chains) react to the amount of force placed on the foot, dispersing pressure and providing resiliency. Bottom line of this physics lesson: You get tailored cushioning that reacts to your specific weight, pace, gait, movement and running environment – "made-for-me" cushioning vs. "one size fits all."

And, as with all good technology, we’ve taken it a step further (two steps actually):

  • BioMoGo DNA is DNA technology blended with the BioMoGo midsole to provide adaptive cushioning throughout the midsole vs. just in the heel and forefoot.
  • BioMoGo DNA midsole includes an organic, non-toxic additive that biodegrades the midsole 50 times faster than traditional EVA when it comes into contact with anaerobic landfill microbes (otherwise known as active, enclosed landfills).

  • 30% more cushioning than standard midsole materials (gel or EVA)
  • Twice as much energy return for more pep in your step
  • Great performance no matter your weight or running pace
  • Smoother transition from heel to toe

Segmented Crash Pad

What is it?

The Segmented Crash Pad customizes your foot's lay-down to provide amazing cushion and smooth heel-to-toe transition throughout the run.

How does it work?

We know that a key component of maximizing your run is to provide the smoothest possible heel-to-toe transition. The Segmented Crash Pad is one technology we use to achieve this goal.

Shaped like a caterpillar, the Segmented Crash Pad is a midsole made up of independent, yet fully integrated shock absorbers. As your foot strikes the ground, the segments work together to customize your individual lay down to provide the right amount of cushion and seamless heel-to-toe transition for you – making the most of all that effort you put into each stride.

So I first want to say that I'm still in love with my GTS 12's and 13's. The 14's didn't do it for me and quickly sent them back. I went to a running store and was able to try these and the normal edition GTS 15's - I have to say there is actually a difference. I landed better in the Marathon Special Edition version - not sure if it was the upper or they did something totally different to the bottom of the shoe- but I even had the girl who was helping me take a look on my landing on the screen and she 100% agreed. Brooks- PLEASE make the Adrenaline's like they were before, that peg you took out definitely made a difference, but these are a nice improvement. As for the normal colors in the GTS 15, my landing didn't improve much and they did NOT feel as great- so I definitely recommend reviewing what you did to the NYC Marathon Edition shoe and using the same material. I took them on a 5 mile run and they felt nice and springy - much better than the GTS 14's.

I have been an Adrenaline wearer since version 6 (^ & 11 being my favs). I have had some that I've not really liked but could get by with...not this one. Where to begin?

First, the upper is much tighter than recent versions. The volume dimension seems to be the most noticeable pinch: I can't imagine getting orthotics in these shoes. The cushioning felt great at first, but after 6 miles the sides of my feet hurt when I stopped...like, "couldn't run the next day" hurt. I thought maybe it was the surface (trail), so I tried them again on both pavement & track. Nope, still hurt my feet badly: the sides were extremely sore & felt like they were rubbed raw.

I've never had this experience with a Brooks shoe & I'm hoping my running store will take them back & exchange for a version 14 (which apparently I'm stocking up on for next year). I still love Brooks & this shoe may work great for others. But for me it is REALLY different from the past 4 versions & a terrible upgrade for me. If this is the direction the Adrenaline is going I may need to look for a new shoe. I'm really disappointed.

    Comments about Adrenaline GTS 15:

I am so disappointed. I usually love this shoe but there appears to be a defect in the right shoe on the left part of the shoe. It rubs my foot and is sharp and I can not find what the problem is when I take the shoe off. I will most likely return the shoes.

          Comments about Adrenaline GTS 15:

Prior versions of the Adrenaline (from 13 and earlier) ran narrow, so that I could only wear a wide width, which typically came in only one color, the most boring of the line. The 15 (and also the 14) started running a little wider, just wide enough for me to have my full selection from the lineup. I'm usually a 9 1/2 wide in a sneaker, and this fit just fine in a 10 medium (not too long at all). It is super light and cushiony, yet stable on the inside sole where I'd tend to pronate. Love the Raspberry color. Was unsure what it would look like from the photo but it is really dark (from a distance it almost looks like red), rather than the fuchsia color from last year.

                Comments about Adrenaline GTS 15:

I've been wearing Adrenalines since I began running two years ago. Size 12's have always fit perfectly and I've always been pleased with this shoe. However, the size 12's in this shoe and one of the other colors I tried are too small. And I also ordered a size 13, just to try it, and it was way too big, especially in the heel area, which just feels loose. Unfortunately, I have decided I am going to have to look for a new shoe style, which I am sad about, since these have historically been so great for me.
