Central Cambria High School - Ebensburg, PA

Number of years coaching: 13 years coaching track and cross country.

At a glance: Coach Randy Wilson’s enthusiasm and passion for running is contagious. He pushes his athletes not by yelling from the sidelines, but by doing the workouts with them. His team reaches new heights by seeing how he pushes himself to the limit daily. Coach Randy Wilson is also always willing to stay late or hold Saturday practices, so everyone can get their workouts in. He has made the sport of running fun and that has spread into the community. As one athlete stated, “Not only has he changed the school, he has changed the town. People run all the time now, everywhere. “

What are some of Coach Wilson’s favorite coaching moment?

  • I knew my girls were focused when they were running final stride outs on the starting line of the state XC meet, all of a sudden they huddle around one girl so she can go to the bathroom, they proceed to win the state meet.
  • In a small middle school dual meet, my three 3200 meter runners, ran the 8 laps side by side withh an autistic runner from the other school and encouraged her the entire race and cheered her on as she sprinted the last 50 meters to win the race.

What makes Coach Wilson Run Happy?
Being around young runners and watching them develop a love for running, it inspires me and fuels my passion for running.
