Delighted and Improved Runner
2017/08/06 | Newbury | Swampydog
Getting back in to running after a while I decided that it was worth investing in a decent pair of shoes. I went to Up and Running in Basingstoke, UK and tried around 6 different pairs of shoes of various brands on their treadmill with the full video gait analysis. I am neutral on my right foot and mild overpronation on my left. Whilst all the shoes I tried had the same mechanical effect, there was no question that the Ravenna 8 was the most comfortable and felt the best as soon as I put them on. Things that I like: Firstly, the nine fits me as a size nine perfectly, none of this 'our shoes tend to come up half a size too small' as I got from one brand's outlet store recently. Secondly I absolutely love the super soft cushioning around the neck of the shoe. The weight for me is perfect, I like to know I have a shoe on, but not that I can feel the weight as I run. The flexibility is also perfect, I can feel that I have the support for my left foot, but my right can still roll and push off as normal. With regards to actual running, the difference is night and day. Previously I was keeping my runs to a relatively short distance (5 miles) as it was physically painful by the end of that distance with my left leg feeling the impact of every step, despite the shoes I was using being pretty new and suitable for mild overpronation. Within a week I was up to 8 miles and I am now pushing my aerobic fitness, not finishing runs because of physical discomfort. I now finish a run with no discomfort at all apart from obvious muscle fatigue as I push a further distance. (My goal is 1/2 marathon within three months.) I am so delighted that I have just ordered a second pair in a different colourway. For me now, it's just not worth the risk of spending money on another brand or model when I have found a shoe that suits me so perfectly. I am seriously impressed and I cannot overemphasise how much these shoes stood out when compared against 5 of their competitors!
Yes, I would recommend this!
