Bunny Aint No Kind of Rider

Upon our return from Chiba, Japan there were only a handful of dried out leaves left on the ground and the trail was coated with a thin layer of ice; it's winter. This years 'Fall Tour' was full of highs and a few lows for everyone on the team. Overall the womens teams has seen huge jumps in our training, but it's been a matter of putting them together on the right day.

For me personally I'm walking away from the fall segment feeling pretty good about things. I was able to knock some time of my PRs in a few races and more importantly get some experience in both the longer distances and international races. It's always eye opening to compete against some of the best athletes in the world and realize how much more work there is to be done.

Next up for the Womens team is another stab at the half marathon, this time in Houston. I'm looking forward to getting back to the longer runs and workout, but could do without all the winter cold! Regardless, it will be a nice last segment before we get into realmarathon training for our trials.

Rocks.

It has been a pretty eventful month here in Rochester Hills ....... keeping busy with running as always. The women's team got a chance to visit Boston for the Tufts10k and get on the trials course one last time. It was nice walking away with a positive experience there, and feeling pretty confident about running fast on the course. After Tufts there was a brief 3 days before I boarded a plane and headed off to Udine, Italy for the World Road Running Championships. The trip was an amazing experience -- being surrounded by such amazing runners including my teammates, and of course getting to race on the mean streets of Udine was all pretty exciting. I walked away fairly satisfied with my race there. I finished with a nice PR, and a performance that matches where I feel I should be at this point based on my training. I say fairly satisfied because, as a runner, it's in our nature to pick apart our performances and find at least a handful of ways to make it better and improve upon it next time out.

Tonic.

It's been a pretty eventful month here in Rochester Hills ........ in between the running and the part time job, this month I finally got the chance to enjoy a little bit of play time around Michigan. I was able to check out the Big House and watch Michigan take down #10 Penn State. After the football game I went to a Ryan Adams (not to be confused with 'Summer of '69' Bryan Adams) show at the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor, where he rocked the socks off of everyone. Later in the month Wilco played at the Fox Theater in Detroit. Jeff Tweedy sported a white suit with some sweet sequined patterns. The Fox Theater was an amazing venue, but I've got to be honest, that was the smallest 20oz of beer I had ever seen in my life! I want a remeasure. October also happened to be a big Moosejaw birthday month. A good 5-8 people I work with were celebrating birthdays. In true Moosejaw fashion a bash was thrown, dancing took place, and inevitably, black mailable pictures were taken.

Juice.

It's been a pretty eventful month here in Rochester Hills .......... keeping a good balance between running and life in general can be tricky. There is a Thursday, Friday, and Saturday every week and for some people that's all you need for a reason to hit the town. For a runner there is always a workout, long run, or race just around the corner and it's always a reason to stay in, keep the legs up and catch up on sleep. How much can you get away with in either direction? How many weekend nights can you stay in resting up before you go out of your mind with boredom watching another 60 Minutes or movie on On Demand? How many nights of 'just one drink' or 'I'll just stay out till 12 tonight' before fatigue sets in and you begin to lose sight of what you are really here to do?

Magic.

It's been a pretty eventful month here in Rochester Hills............ it's just the beginning. This October was the first time in the now 2 years that I have been here, were i felt at home in Rochester. I've found my balance between running and fun. I have outlets that I can go to when running becomes just too much for the moment, and I have teammates that I can 'running nerd' it out with whenever I need; finding that balance is magic. Life is always changing and balances are disrupted, but with adjustments here and there I hope to keep the magic alive. Next up is a trip to New York where I will get to watch the Men's Olympic Trials and check out the city, followed shortly by a trip to Japan where Melissa and I will run on the USA team at the Chiba Ekiden. Let the good times roll.
