BROOKS TRULY UNDERSTANDS WHAT ATHLETES NEED. When quality durable, multipurpose shorts are hard to come by Brooks is there and they've got your back.
First off these are great high quality shorts. I own 3 pair and am ordering more and couldn't help but notice the sad excuses for reviews on here. I wear mine everyday to the gym and I wear them for casual shorter runs and trail runs. I also wear them routinely for mountain biking. They are long enough that you don't feel uncomfortable wearing them somewhere before or after a run or gym visit. If I'm planning long and slow these are fine I just don't wear long shorts when I'm running hard and fast.
These are longer length shorts and not very many actual runners wear long shorts on a marathon.
Mine ran true to size I wear a Large in every pair of shorts I own from Nike to Under Armour and of course Brooks.
The pockets are great and exactly what you need for storing your keys, phone, wallet, etc in the gym. You can also comfortably throw a couple gels in your front pockets. The secure zip pocket is nice for some cash or a wallet and the confidence that it will be their. Obviously no serious runner crams their wallet, keys, gel, and phone in their front pockets and then complains that its uncomfortable or falls out.
I consider these more general use shorts not my go to race shorts. Buy normal shorter length running shorts don't complain that the Mazda Miata doesn't have 4 wheel drive.
I prefer the shorter Brooks options for serious runs with pockets in the back for gels if that's your thing.
I've been wearing mine to the gym and running in them for over a year with zero problems with durability. As many dumbbells and barbells have been rubbed on them I'm impressed that they haven't become worn or frayed. I've also had some outstanding crashes on some all mountain riding that has torn other shorts in half and these came out of it unscathed.
Also if someone buys you a gift and they don't fit and they aren't designed for what you're using them for you probably shouldn't make a fool of yourself reviewing the product poorly. Perhaps say I'm not very smart and wore the wrong size and used them for something most people wouldn't.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THESE SHORTS.

These are simply awful. Too much billowy fabric, the crotch hangs far too low for running, and the pockets are so small that they are effectively useless. They are not cut like "running shorts" at all but instead seem more like basketball shorts.
First off, the inseam IS NOT 7" AS ADVERTISED. The inseam is actually 8". Second, the crotch of the outer liner hangs a full 12" below the waistband. The inner liner hangs probably 1" to 1 1/2" shorter, so good luck trying to pull them up to offset the low hang on the outer liner. Third, the length of these shorts from the top of the waistband to the bottom of the leg is 18.5". This is far longer than any other pair of 7" inseam running shorts I've ever owned. In fact, I've compared them to another pair of 7" shorts (from a different manufacturer) that these were meant to replace and found that the length from waistband to bottom of leg is a full 3" longer.
I tried these out on a 10K run today and found the billowy fabric repeatedly bunching up between my legs and the low hanging outer shell crotch causing chafing. These might be OK if you are just going to the gym to lift some weights or something, but for running they are complete garbage and a waste of money. Worst Brooks product purchase I've ever had.

Comments about Rogue Runner III Short:
I have had the hardest time finding the right short for me. These are the best shorts ever. They are lightweight, dry out fast, have pockets, great zipper stash pocket, and they are not to short. I am an avid marathoner and ultra marathoner these shorts never chafe and are by far my favorite shorts.

Comments about Rogue Runner III Short:
Initially, I purchased these to pad my online order up to the free shipping status, but I've been pleasantly surprised by these shorts. They are really comfortable, fit great, and though I thought they were a little long at first, they ride great on trail runs. Now they are my favorite shorts.

This is an additional pair. I think these are the best shorts out there for working out and running. Too much bulk for competition day but great for everyday casual, workouts and running.

Comments about Rogue Runner III Short:
Ordered this short for trail running and ready to order another pair. The material is first class, very comfortable. No binding or riding up in the staddle. Has two seam pockets for stowing gels/bars and one hidden zip pocket to secure car key. The Rogue III sizing runs large. I'm 6'3", 225 lbs, 36 waist, and had to drop to a size medium after trying a large in a local store. I haven't worn a medium of anything in years. The large would have been OK but baggy fitting and require the drawstring.

Comments about Rogue Runner III Short:
These are the best short I have found. I like them so much that I have purchased my third pair. They are a perfect length such that they appear and feel like competitive running shorts (not too long), but are versatile enough to lounge around in afterwards (not too short). The lightweight material is fantastic and the hidden zipper placement at the right side pocket is perfect.

Comments about Rogue Runner III Short:
These are the best running shorts. They fit and feel great and are the perfect length. Short enough to look like a serious runner, long enough to still feel comfortable wearing them in public. I also like the location of the zipper pocket in the side pocket - this is much more convenient than in the rear or shorts.
