BROOKS TRULY UNDERSTANDS WHAT ATHLETES NEED. When quality durable, multipurpose shorts are hard to come by Brooks is there and they've got your back.
First off these are great high quality shorts. I own 3 pair and am ordering more and couldn't help but notice the sad excuses for reviews on here. I wear mine everyday to the gym and I wear them for casual shorter runs and trail runs. I also wear them routinely for mountain biking. They are long enough that you don't feel uncomfortable wearing them somewhere before or after a run or gym visit. If I'm planning long and slow these are fine I just don't wear long shorts when I'm running hard and fast.
These are longer length shorts and not very many actual runners wear long shorts on a marathon.
Mine ran true to size I wear a Large in every pair of shorts I own from Nike to Under Armour and of course Brooks.
The pockets are great and exactly what you need for storing your keys, phone, wallet, etc in the gym. You can also comfortably throw a couple gels in your front pockets. The secure zip pocket is nice for some cash or a wallet and the confidence that it will be their. Obviously no serious runner crams their wallet, keys, gel, and phone in their front pockets and then complains that its uncomfortable or falls out.
I consider these more general use shorts not my go to race shorts. Buy normal shorter length running shorts don't complain that the Mazda Miata doesn't have 4 wheel drive.
I prefer the shorter Brooks options for serious runs with pockets in the back for gels if that's your thing.
I've been wearing mine to the gym and running in them for over a year with zero problems with durability. As many dumbbells and barbells have been rubbed on them I'm impressed that they haven't become worn or frayed. I've also had some outstanding crashes on some all mountain riding that has torn other shorts in half and these came out of it unscathed.
Also if someone buys you a gift and they don't fit and they aren't designed for what you're using them for you probably shouldn't make a fool of yourself reviewing the product poorly. Perhaps say I'm not very smart and wore the wrong size and used them for something most people wouldn't.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THESE SHORTS.

These are simply awful. Too much billowy fabric, the crotch hangs far too low for running, and the pockets are so small that they are effectively useless. They are not cut like "running shorts" at all but instead seem more like basketball shorts.
First off, the inseam IS NOT 7" AS ADVERTISED. The inseam is actually 8". Second, the crotch of the outer liner hangs a full 12" below the waistband. The inner liner hangs probably 1" to 1 1/2" shorter, so good luck trying to pull them up to offset the low hang on the outer liner. Third, the length of these shorts from the top of the waistband to the bottom of the leg is 18.5". This is far longer than any other pair of 7" inseam running shorts I've ever owned. In fact, I've compared them to another pair of 7" shorts (from a different manufacturer) that these were meant to replace and found that the length from waistband to bottom of leg is a full 3" longer.
I tried these out on a 10K run today and found the billowy fabric repeatedly bunching up between my legs and the low hanging outer shell crotch causing chafing. These might be OK if you are just going to the gym to lift some weights or something, but for running they are complete garbage and a waste of money. Worst Brooks product purchase I've ever had.

Comments about Rogue Runner III Short:
I am an larger sized runner. When doing long runs these lightweight shorts tend to ride up in the crochal region. It gets annoying de wedgying yourself constantly on an eight mile run. I think that smaller runner body types would do well with these shorts. They are well built a light weight.

Comments about Rogue Runner III Short:
These are, by far, the best shorts in which I have ever run. I own multiple other pairs of Brooks running shorts (Infiniti Short III, Infiniti Notch II, and others). However, I regularly have to wear the Equilibrium CoRe Short with those other pairs or the insides of my thighs get rubbed raw, not only from rubbing against each other but from the material as well (the material seems to bunch up there as I'm running). Well no more chafing for me! Just pure enjoyment running down the road. They are very soft as well. The front pockets are more for when the shorts are being used for casual use. The interior and hidden pockets are best for running. I want to say that I don't recommend them so that I can keep them all for myself! I love these shorts! Run happy!

Comments about Rogue Runner III Short:
I like wearing shorts, even in Michigan winters (which are milder, lately). The longer length looks good, and provides good coverage. They are my most comfortable shorts, aside from my racers.

PROS, just.. what i was looking, i am 5'8" about 163 pounds, fits excellent and it is just above the knees. CONS price and the small zipper pocket must be a stronger fabric "to secure the keys"

Comments about Rogue Runner III Short:
I bought these for moderately cold weather windy, brisk weather when I didn't want to wear compression shorts but exposed legs were too exposed. I also wanted them for the gym or for when I'm around folks that are not into seeing lots of 54 year old hairy legs. These shorts are awesome. Super lightweight, but feel really durable. And the way they drape gives it a really cool look.
