I've decided to race Swiss Alpine 78K next week with a new pair of ST4s. It's a challenging but fairly untechnical course for an ultra trail marathon. Therefore lightweight racing flats could provide a competitive advantage. I've already done it with ST3's a couple of times before, and last year I beat my course PR with them. The only thing to be cautious about would be slippery downhills in wet conditions. I've tried proper trail shoes with bad results: they were equally slippery when wet and their weight slowed me down. Scott Jurek must think the same as he has been currently training in Rocky Mountain National Park wearing ST4's (see the photos in Anton Krupicka's blog). I expect another PR next Saturday with ST4!

Not very good for a 12k.
Too heavy for racing. Almost the same weight as my regular training shoes.

Comments about Racer ST 4:
I'm a racewalker who needs something light and comfortable for infrequent 5K's to 1/2 marathons. These shoes definitely fill the bill but the soles wear way too quickly, especially the heel area. At best, I might get two 13K's out of them...not very cost effective at all. I wish they used harder rubber and made the soles a bit thicker. The "extra" weight would hardly be noticable.

I am a triathalete and I tried the Newton before this shoe and the brooks racer revitalized my enjoyment for running. The Newton to me is overrated. Mario from ATLANTA

Comments about Racer ST 4:
I love this shoe and want to wear it more, however it has worn so quickly.(The rubber is peeling of the heel) i've decided to save it for races only.I now train in my ghost 3.I'm not a heavy runner 59 kg but maybe too much of a heel striker for this shoe
