No more blaming it on the rain. We've added a waterproof, breathable GORE-TEX® membrane to the Ghost 4 to keep your feet dry and comfortable while you pound the pavement, so you can get out and get running -- no matter how many puddles you have to step in.

If you're looking at trail shoes for off-road running, this isn't the droid you're looking for; it doesn't have the technical features or the tread for that kind of use. If you're looking for a weatherproof road-running shoe, you're in the right place. The Ghost GTX is exactly what its name says it is -- nothing more, nothing less. And as someone who already runs in Ghosts and is nuts enough to train for a half marathon in the dead of winter, that's exactly what I wanted. Having said that, while I haven't had a chance to test these to the fullest, I have noticed a few differences from the "regular" Ghost 4. The first is that the inside of the heel below the collar is not padded. I'm sure that's because the Gore-Tex makes such padding a logistical impossibility, but if you have Achilles tendonitis or bursitis, you may want to invest in some drugstore heel cushions before any hill/incline running. The midsoles on these also feel firmer and less flexible, especially in the forefoot area. While I bought mine half a size larger than normal to accommodate thicker socks, I did not notice a similar difference when I tried on a "regular" pair in that size; those felt the same, only a little roomier. I haven't had the same issue others reported with the laces, but I always double-knot, and as an orthotic user, I can't really speak for arch support either. But overall I'm quite happy with these shoes.

Just bought the shoes, wore them for three hours inside of my home to see how they felt....terrible, the longer I wore them the more my feet hurt. When I took them off there was a piece in the shoes on the arch on both shoes that wasn't sewn in flat, so my the arches on my feet were bruised. I hope no one else has had this problem. I will NEVER buy Brooks again.

I wore these all winter in Minnesota and not only did my feet stay warm, they stayed dry through snow and rain. They are very comfortable and give me nice traction when my standard poodles try to walk/run faster than me.

I love my new shoes. They are great. I had the Glycerin shoes before, and had no problems transitioning to the Ghost. A little stiff at first, but I have worn them a few times and now they're perfect. I will definitely but them again.

I have been running since July 2011 and these are my second pair of shoes. These are new so I only had the two reviews to go off of. I run three miles every morning. I run on the road and in the grass so these work well either way. I do not have a complaint about the shoes I put 15 miles on them a week. These are great running shoes!

I live in Spokane and bought these shoes to run in the snow and rain. They are perfect! I've run in deep snow with my trackers on them, run through mud and a race in the rain...and all times the shoes have kept out the moisture and kept my feet dry and comfy!

Took these out for a 10 mile run in snow and slush, wore my regular socks and my feet were warm and dry without becoming hot and uncomfortable. Felt great, did 3.5 mile loops incase I needed to change into other running shoes, had no problems first time wearing.
LOVE Ghost GTX! Great for Wisconsin weather!

I put these on and ran for an hour in the rain, hitting several puddles along the run. When I got home and took them off - warm, dry feet! I just took them out for an hour run in the snow - wonderful in snow as well. Good traction, I didn't slip once, and nice and warm with thin smart wool socks.
Good shoes for Wisconsin weather.

CON: Like a previous reviewer stated, the laces constantly come undone.
PROS: As a 53 years old female, with a lifetime of high-heels I now have problem feet. I had tried on several Gore-Tex trail runners, and light hiking shoes. Some may have fit in one area but not another. I need a roomy toe box due to hammertoes. I mail-ordered the Ghost GTX (no stores in the Ann Arbor, Mi area carried them), sight unseen, based on reviews from other sites, and to my surprise they fit great.
I normally wear a woman's 9 in running shoes, 8.5 in street/dress shoes, and I took a 9 in the Ghost GTX. My outside toes don't feel squished, or rubbed, and I have generous (but not sloppy) wiggle-room in the toebox. I have tried them with thin Smartwool "street shoe-style" knee-high socks (the knee-highs keep my legs warmer), and thicker, athletic, ankle-high socks and both work. The thicker, "running" socks make the Ghost fit a little better than the thinner wool knee-highs but I expected that.
I previously wore the Merrell Siren GTX in a woman's 9. While at first I liked them for their low-profile, form-fitting, close fit, but later found this to be their downfall with not enough room in the toe area.
I've only worn the Ghost once, so far, on my dirt/gravel road, and grassy, hilly paths. The traction seems very good. I plan on wearing them for walking/day hiking, and once weekly high-interval sprinting through the usually snowy, slushy Michigan winter. And, they aren't "clunky" like some other Gore-Tex "light" hikers/trail runners. I tried a pair of Montrails, and some Solomons and felt like Herman Munster because the shoes were so big & clunky.

I bought these shoes about a month ago, and I love them!I want to wear them all the time. I haven't run in a lot of rain with them but I have splashed in puddles (a few intentional) and love that I don't have to worry about getting wet! They feel a little loose, but I just have to tie them well, and with winter coming I'll have room for thicker socks. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is the shoelaces. They always come untied! I just ran 8 miles and I had to retie them twice ... and they were double knotted! I'm a little annoyed that I spent [$] on these shoes and the laces are so lame I have to go buy new ones. Other than that, it was a great purchase!

Merchant response: Hello,
We are very sorry to hear about the uncomfortable fit you had with these shoes. If a piece of the shoe was not completely sewn in, it sounds like it might be a defect in the shoe. I would encourage you to contact our customer service team at 1-800-2-BROOKS to talk about your options.
Thanks,
Brooks Sports
