Runner’s World magazine’s Spring 2011 Running Shoe Guide named the Defyance 4 their Editor’s Choice. In the March 2011 issue, Runner’s World states, "this update is flexible yet firm underfoot and snug in the heel. The upper provides a secure, articulated wrap through the arch that testers absolutely raved about." As a Runner’s World wear-tester noted, "The upper held firm, but not so much that it kept my foot from working." Runner’s World recommended the Defyance for "beginners or any runner looking for a versatile training shoe" and for "high-mileage days or tempo runs".
For neutral runners seeking a balanced, supportive ride, the new Defyance 4 is beyond enticing. The incomparable fit and feel of the award-winning Adrenaline GTS is tempting enough. But now, a caterpillar crash pad ensures a smoother, adaptable transition from heel-to-toe while an asymmetrical arch saddle makes for a snug, secure mid-foot wrap. Resistance is futile.
The latest version of this award-winning shoe is now available. > See the Men's Defyance 5

Tried the Glycerin 8 but had to return them. I have been running in the Ghosts and was looking for a change. These shoes are fantastic.

I have had Defyance 2,3, and now 4. 2 and 3 were very good but 4 is causing me to pronate. I have loved their shoes in the past but these are killing my knees. I bought 2 pair, one for trail and one for pavement/nice shoes.
They hurt my knees so bad just walking or standing that I wind up having to take them off. I plan on sending them back and testing their return policy.

Comments about Defyance 4:
I choose the Defyance 4 because it came in a narrow width first and I had finally worn out my Defyance 3's. In training for 13.1 and these are holding up to all the wind/weather/miles Ohio has to offer.

Comments about Defyance 4:
Ran in these shoes for a year and loved them. Then bought a pair of Brooks Ghost - they destroyed my feet. Glad to have found a couple pairs of the Defyance 4s still being sold; I promptly bought 2 more pairs of the Defyance 4s to last me through the next iteration (hopefully going to be better?).

Comments about Defyance 4:
I am 220lbs 6 ft these ARE THE Best running sneekers i have EVER worn! I have tried all, asics were my favorite now i use them to cut the grass. I was suggested these by runner's alley and i didn't want to get away from what worked for me. I did! Now i relize what worked for me wasn't the best for me! Brooks I will NEVER get anthor brand! As my milage goes up i love them more and more. NO more shin pain, feet issues, back issues! No gimicks just a Freaking good shoe!

Comments about Defyance 4:
I used to have stress fractures and arch problems all the time. I thought I'd spend a little more and get this shoe thinking that it would take a little time to feel comfortable in it. I wore them once and never went back to the old shoe. It took awhile to figure out how the laces work best with my feet but the wide toe box was exactly what I needed. Mine have 326 miles and are not at all worn down and could probably go another 200.

Comments about Defyance 4:
I've only used Saucony trainers prior to buying these (five marathons) and am now a Brooks convert for sure. The Defyance 4's were comfortable right from the get go with no 'breaking in' required and have been absolutely great to wear.
A minor drawback is that I think they force me slightly more onto my heals than my prior Saucony's. The big drawback (which is why I took a star off) is that they really do wear out quickly. 200 miles in these needed replacing (I've worn them for almost 500 miles, but they really are a shadow of their pre-200 selves).

Comments about Defyance 4:
I am running approx 70 miles a week for my high school, and i have gone through 3 pairs of these over the seasons, and i haven't thought about changing to a different trainer. Its comfortable and not too heavy for the amount of support it gives your foot. Great shoe!
