When you want nothing to come between you and the trail, the ultra-light PureGrit won't get in your way. We constructed an outsole with an aggressive, multi-directional lug pattern for better grip on the ever-changing surfaces of adventure. Its concave shape delivers better balance by splaying out upon impact and creating more surface area for ground contact. With blazing colors, you'll light the trail on fire. Metaphorically.

We’re not the only people thrilled with the changes: Runner’s World® named the PureGrit 2 “Best Update” in the Trail Shoe Guide in the April 2013 issue. Sure, the editors noted the updates to the upper, what with the thinner and lighter materials, asymmetrical lacing, and burrito-wrap tongue. But as they wrote, “it’s underfoot where we noted the most meaningful change. The first version of the shoe had a clever outsole pattern that held well on loose dirt, but its swirly, pointed tread proved slick on rocks and roads. This update gets a more traditional design – diamond-shaped lugs have sharp edges that bite into nearly any surface.”

Just like our core line, we hold PureProject to the industry’s highest weartest and durability standards. Because of their lightweight construction and fewer materials, runners should generally expect shoes from the PureProject line to last approximately 250-300 miles.

These feel light...weighing less than my usual road trainers by an ounce. (Weight makes a big difference, especially in racing if you encounter water, as anyone who has ever ran in very wet shoes knows!).

These are part of Brooks Pure line and are designed with a 4mm heel-toe drop. There is good arch support within them, but they still maintain a "natural" feel. The asymmetrical lacing feels comfortable, and once laced, I don't notice them again.

Compared with Brooks Cascadia8, these are a sleeker, nimbler model. The Cascadias feel more like a rugged hiking/running shoe with a wider toe box (too wide for my foot), but the PureGrits fit more closely with less sole and bulk to the upper.
    How they performed
I was able to test the PureGrit2 shoes on a variety of trail surfaces: gravel, bark, grass, packed dirt and slick mud. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately), I was unable to test them in loose sand, snow or icy surfaces.

The hardest test for the shoes was certainly mud, but in my 7 mile run with mud I lost traction only twice- both times going downhill on a very slick slope, and only momentarily. Overall, they handled very well on each trail they were worn.

Great but too high on ankle, after 2 miles trail running, I have a blister on ankle. May try again tomorrow. However if they fit your feet at different level in back they were awesome.

    Comments about PureGrit 2:

This is my second pair of the True Grit shoes, and I can see a big improvement over the first version. The tread is better designed for wet and/or slick trails; there is better material coverage to block dirt/dust; the toe box is a bit wider allowing for better movement; there seems to be better stability control; and my absolute favorite feature is the shoelace strap (to tuck excess laces). The shoe feels a bit heavier than the first version, but not sure if that's just my imagination.

Great shoes for trail running. They fit great (be sure to get a half size big). They're really light and are, in my opinion, the perfect balance between minimal and traditional. I love the 4mm drop...was a little nervous about making that transition but wish I'd done it sooner now that I have them. The only thing I don't like is that the arch seems to be a little too high for my right foot. But it's not bad enough to keep me from wearing them on the trail.

This shoe is comfortable enough for the shorter trail run and can handle the longer distances. You can run on the road in these if you have mixed terrain.

          Comments about PureGrit 2:

I'm a serial beginner runner, but have gotten pretty serious about it in the past month using a run/walk training program. I have been running a combo road/trail, but was using an older pair of Nikes- not many miles on them, just older. I developed a right ankle sprain/possible anterior tibial tendonitis about 2 weeks ago. I went out 3 days after developing those pains and bought the PureGrit 2's. Almost immediately they erased the pain, and along with stretching, 10 days off from running, plus some light hiking (in the Brooks of course, which are great for hiking also I might add), I'm ready to hit the road/trail again. I'm running tomorrow in them and restarting my training! Thanks Brooks!

These shoes are Awesome! This is my third pair of Brooks in the past couple of months. I got them to run outside becasue part of my run has gravel and uneven terrain. I LOVE THEM! They have good grip, the tongue stays in place, they look cool, and they are so comfortable. Like my other Brooks no break-in required, you can throw these on and start running. I definitely recommend them.

I like the fit and the shoe is an over all show stopper. Puts a pep in my step. BUT the back of the shoe is high and was rubbing the back of my ankle the first day I wore them. I am hoping I will get used to it. Other wise... I will have to send them back.
