I have been training for my first marathon in these shoes and they are awesome! They are standing up to the snow and icy roads on my long runs quite well. So far, I have only put about 180 miles on them and they still feel like new. Very comfortable.

I love, love, love the Defyance 2. When I found these shoes I thought I had completed my search for the perfect pair for life. However, the updated 3 fits slightly different and tears apart my Achilles. Usually I just bite the bullet for a couple runs until I have a good callus going, but these are so brutal that I can't run in them without my heels bleeding like mad!
I'm bummed about this and am looking forward to trying out the Defyance 4.

Comments about Defyance 3:
My first ever pair of running shoes - made me a Brooks fan for life. Just retired these because I've worn out all the support, and ordered a second identical pair.

I wear these shoes all the time. My balance is not the greatest, so they are specially good on the treadmill.

Comments about Defyance 3:
My former favorite was the Glycerin 7. Wasted hundreds trying to find a comparable shoe, but then found the Defyance 3. I LOVE IT!! I am on my third pair! Since I know they won't be around forever, I have tried on other shoes recently and none compare to this shoe. It is light, fast, comfortable, and has a perfectly designed toe box. They also make my feet look small! They wear a little faster than I would like, but I do put a lot of miles on them. The Defyance 3 is still the best shoe I have ever had and I have had a TON.

Comments about Defyance 3:
Initially, I really liked the Defyance. However, it doesn't compare to the Glycerin or the Ghost. It feels a bit heavy and stiff compared to the Ghost without the lovely cushioning from the Glycerin. I ran 350 miles in them and they held up well. The shoe didn't hurt my feet in any way, but it just was not the fit I was hoping for.

Comments about Defyance 3:
I love this shoe and just bought the new model to replace it. It's lightweight (even more so than some of the 'cushioned minimalist' shoes!) and has a great, responsive feel.
However, my last pair wore out after 4 months and about 160 miles. I tend to run on my forefoot and the sole under the ball of my foot died fast. I started getting forefoot pain while running for the first time and had to buy a new pair (which cleared it up in no time). I expect a little more life out of a shoe, and I'm wondering if the biodegradeable soles can't handle the constant wetness that Seattle running brings? I always dried them out between runs, but they got soggy a lot. I tend to average only 10 miles a week, so a shoe should last longer than 4 months.
But - the feel of the shoe is fantastic enough that I bought the new model! I'm hoping it lasts!

Comments about Defyance 3:
I love the Defyance 3! I am prone to lower leg issues, esp the calf, and was forced to take off over 4 months with a running injury that I (and my PT) are convinced was a result of wearing the wrong running shoes. I discovered the Defyance 3 and have been hooked ever since. They have just the right amount of support - just the right amount of cushion (not too much) and arch support. My only con with this shoe is that they no longer make them[...]the Defyance 4 has too much cushion and does not support my foot adequately. Thus, I have stocked up on this Defyance 3 and hope that with the Defyance 5, Brooks will go back to the basics.

Comments about Defyance 3:
I was running in the Glycerin prior to using this particular shoe. When I would get about 2 miles into a run my hips would be begging me to stop. After a recommedation I tried my first pair of the Defyance and loved them. I did notice in hotter weather that my pinky toe and big toe were getting some blistering. I attributed this to some additional swelling from the heat so I moved to the wide width of the Defyance and have been loving them ever since! No more hip pain for me.

Comments about Defyance 3:
I have always worked out, but a little over a year ago I began running. I also started Physical Therapy school, which means I learned shoes really are made for certain gait patterns. The first 8 months or so I ran in Nikes which wore out quickly. I have a running friend who suggested to me that I try another brand and only run in my running shoes. So that's what I decided to do. I went to a running store that looks at how you walk and trys to put you in the most appropriate shoe. They even put me on the treadmill to run some to see how they felt. I suggest atleast jogging around the store in the shoes before you buy them even though it doesn't compare to miles of running. I got the Brooks Defyance 3. I absolutly love them.
I started with treadmill running and now run outside. They are great for both. I did have to buy some running socks that are high around the heel cord because they do rub. Other than that, I am training for my first half marathon and plan on buying another pair to break in for the race.
I can't compare them to the Defyance 2 since this is my first pair of Brooks. So I do not know what they changed to make them different.

Comments about Defyance 3:
I run about 50k a week. I have tried three different shoes in less than a year and then I went to a professional running store where they checked my foot and running and gave me a few pairs to try, few companies. At the first step I felt how good these Brooks were supporting my ankle which was the one place which always hurt me after runs. I felt the support immediately and chose them over the others. It also has great heel support. I have a natural arch and I don't over pronate, I do run on my heels more than the front foot. On my first run with these I was shocked. I didn't know a shoe could affect my run so much!!! And no ankle pain!!!!!! I read reviews and they aren't so good. So I decided that the least I can do is write a good review and let people know that they should be tried if they feel good to you then they are great!!!

Comments about Defyance 3:
I have struggled with extremely painful Plantar Fascitis for a full year. I have not been able to find a comfortable pair of shoes until the Defyance 3. I have been able to walk with minimal to no pain for the first time in over a year! Yeah! I am already wanting a spare pair.
