PROS
I like them for long days, gravel, trail and especially when I'm already tired and sore form a previous days workout.
Plush and sturdy. An SUV of a shoe.
I have a flattish foot, moderate heel strike and knee and back issues. The Beast handles these concerns very well.
Initially, I chose them because I was returning to running after over a decade off and felt they might offer a margin of protection from impact and poor technique. However, I can now handle impact and my technique has improved, but I plan to own a pair of Beasts as long as I'm running.
I don't really need pronation control and in some ways it's more shoe than I need and have neutral shoes for shorter days or racing.
After trying a bunch of shoes (on the tread mill) each of 3 times I bought the Beast, my feet, legs and back told me to keep buying them.
They fit well right out of the box and I require no break-in period.
The control and stability helps prevent slips and ankle rolls.
I got over 350 miles out of each pair, which makes me feel they are a GREAT value.
CONS
Heavy, bulky and expensive, but so is an SUV.
I typically wear (and measure on a Brannock scale) a 2E in most other running shoes, but the (my) forefoot volume forced me into the (rare) extra wide 4E on my last two pairs. Not bad, but if you're on the fence, go wider.
On each pair I had to ShoeGoo and clamp the heel strike area sole back onto the underlying padding late in their life. No big deal.
My buddy, who has had over 20 pairs!, complains that they don't hold up well, but he's a big (210lb) heel striking pronator. He scrunches the heel stike area padding in about 250 mi while the rest of the shoe has a lot of life left. It's a bit messy, but to restore cant angle and cushion, we glued in wedges of padding (from old shoes) and he got another 100 miles out of them. He says the "width is true" and he "can't run in any other shoe."
Hope that helps.

I should have known better than to buy a shoe on-line. Unfortunately there are no retailers in the area that keep this in stock. I not able to not try on the shoe and discuss it with a knowledgeable sales person. I ordered the same size shoe as I wore in New Balance. This shoe is extremely tight around the front section of my foot, and does not appear to be stretching out at all. Very uncomfortable, and I will never buy another shoe on-line. I learned my lesson, hopefully no one else will make the same mistake I did.

I wear my Beasts as often as possible and rotate between three pairs for variety. Of all shoes availabe, these are by far the most comfortable and cushioning. These have kept me on my feet for years now. I'm not sure that I would be as mobile with out them! If you need pronation control and stability these are the shoes you must experience.

I use it for running; building to 15-20 mi/wk. I have flat feet and moderate pronation. Put the Beast on the first day and they felt great; no knee or foot problems. Past shoes were size 11.5 but had to go up to a 12 with the Beast. Width "D" feels just a little tight, mostly around the arch area; flat feet again. Might look to an "E" width the next time. Excellent foot support!

I'm a serious masters runner (30+ miles weekly during off season), yet I also pronate - a lot! Switching to these shoes eliminated some of the back pain I was experiencing. The plus is they are a phenomenal motion control shoe. The first minus is they're heavy - compared to a minimalist shoe. Such is the trade off, though. They're no heavier than any other top-of-the-line motion control shoe. A caveat is the sizing runs small. I bought these in my local store, and I needed to move up a 1/2 size - and then they fit well.

The Beast provides good arch support, yet they look like shape ups, and the rubber falls off the bottom. The price of this shoe is outragous.

I use this product for everyday footwear outside of work (I am a machinist and wear steel toes at work). If I am going to wear shoes other than my safety shoes, it will be these. I was sold on these after a suggestion from my podiatrist, along with custom orthotics and pronation exercises. I believe these shoes are worth the money, but be prepared to shell out for the comfort. As the saleswoman told me, "Don't beat yourself. Treat yourself." I would recommend these to a friend, or other casual/recreational athlete. I plan to use these shoes to train for my first 5k.

I usually purchase (3) pairs a year and have been a big fan for the last 7 years. When I ordered the '12 Brooks Beast, I noticed that the width of the shoe got smaller and more snug. I tried with my orthotics and my feet went to a pins and needles feeling within a few min of putting them on. I also tried a 2E and both are much snug/tighter than the last model. Why would you change the design of such a successful shoe?? I have been brand loyal for several years spending hundreds of dollars and now this... Completely disappointed!! On the search for a new brand and shoe...
