Events Currently Training For:  I just finished a marathon. I plan on doing some local road races this summer then gearing up for some regional races this Fall. I would also like to take some state age records down.

Miles run/week: 60

Favorite Brooks shoes and apparel?Glycerin® & Summon; L.T.D. Fleece ½ Zip, Vapor-Dry 2 Tight, all the Revelation & HVAC gear & of course my I.D. Tee

Why do you run?:  I love the freedom of hitting the road at whatever pace I choose and how ever far I want to go. It’s total control. You can’t beat the atmosphere of a small town festival race. The whole town shuts down and caters just to us runners.

Who inspires you?:  My three boys ages 11, 9, & 7. They run every day on their own just because they like it. They keep it pure, simple and fun.

The best thing about being an I.D. Member (besides the discount):  Hey, I admit it, I like the attention I get at the races. It is also nice giving advice to runners that seek it. When they see all the Brooks ID gear, they know you are the go to guy for info.

When did you start running?:  I ran a few races for fun between the ages of 16-18. When I turned 19, I started training and found out how much easier the races were. I was a walk on at college when I was 20.

What challenges do you face as a runner?:  Trying to find the right balance between running, taking care of my farm, work, and my family of six.

What do you like to do when you're not running?:  Play with my kids, camp, and fish.

Favorite type of event:  Long distance, (15K - Marathon) and the USATF Masters National Club Cross Country Championships.

Favorite race:  The Old Smokey Mountain Marathon

Favorite run:  A 10-mile fartleck on Three Bridge Road. It’s hilly, quiet and full of nature.

Favorite pre- and post-race foods: Poptarts before and pizza after.

Anything else you’d like to add:  Running is not something I take for granted. I run everyday because I don’t know if the Lord is going to bless me with another. I have a sixth grade student, Jameson Casteel, at my school who was diagnosed with Leukemia late last Fall. I just completed the Country Music Marathon with the Team in Training in his honor. I would encourage every runner to use their gift to help others any way they can. It is a very rewarding experience.
