Project Engineer - Future Concepts

General Position Description:  

Primary responsibilities of the Project Engineer – Future Concepts will be to identify and create new research, footwear concepts, technologies and materials that will make Brooks footwear the most innovative and high-performance running company in the industry. This position will work directly with vendors and manufacturing partners to source and build prototypes for the lab test team and deliver completed projects to the in-line development or commercialization teams.  They will also provide engineering expertise in all areas of footwear design, testing, and development.

Basic Responsibilities:

§         Manage and deliver completed technology development projects to the in-line and commercialization teams on time and budget

§         Follow Brooks’ technology development process to sample, test and qualify innovative materials and technologies by working directly with material and technology vendors around the world

§         Cultivate and grow key relationships and network connections between Brooks Sports and outside resources to assist in the research, validation, and creation of innovative product concepts (universities, laboratories, vendors and factories)

§         Travel periodically to Asian manufacturing locations to oversee and assist with sample development and prototype creation

§         Deliver testable prototypes to the lab test team for performance evaluation and assist in testing when necessary

§          Review and analyze test data collected by internal and external resources for test requests; direct additional testing if required; write-up and communicate test reports.

§         Contribute to learning opportunities for the footwear team through periodic presentations of new research and developments in performance materials and technology

§      Make informed material decisions that help build the brand in our markets.

§         Update and expand database of all materials involved in the creation of Brooks footwear in collaboration with Asian manufacturing team

§         Knowledge of all footwear biomechanical and mechanical lab test methods

§          Direct testing resources to complete benchmark testing to update performance databases of Brooks and competitor materials, components or products.

 
Qualifications:
1.       Bachelor of Science (Masters preferred) in engineering; materials, mechanical, chemical or related
2.       5+ years experience with athletic footwear product development or related sporting goods
3.       Strong track record of delivering new technologies through to commercialized product
4.       Experience managing international consumer product manufacturing projects in China and East Asia
5.       Proven track record of successful collaboration in global product development teams
6.       Strong network of professional contacts in the footwear and materials development communities
7.       Ability and interest in regular international travel for project work
8.       Strong written and verbal communication skills in English with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to ESL and non-technical audiences as required. Mandarin a strong advantage.
9.       Familiarity with standard materials testing procedures (e.g. tensile, bending, etc.)
10.   Fluent in the use of data analysis and web-based communication and presentation software and Microsoft Office suite.
