Product Line Manager - Footwear

Position Description
 
The Footwear Product Line Manager works with the VP of Research and Development to set the vision, strategy, concepts and line plan for a Brooks’ global footwear product line that effectively meets the needs of the consumer, the brand and the marketplace. This role leads the cross functional footwear team by providing a seasonal framework ensuring decisions made will meet key deliverables related to consumer, business and marketplace.
 
Position Responsibilities
 
Consumer Knowledge/Intimacy/Interaction
  • The primary focus of the PLM is to meet the unique footwear product needs of the core running consumer. The PLM is the ‘expert’ on the core running consumer that shops SRA and extended channels. This dictates a high degree of consumer and account interaction that may entail significant time spent at retail with clerks and buyers plus time spent with end consumers in other settings (e.g. events, focus groups, running clubs).    This position provides timely consumer feedback by way of trip reports and other communication methods.
Product Line Planning
  • Creates and updates on a timely basis footwear product line plans for Brooks Running. Works with the VP of Research and Development in the marketing planning process to plan the global line strategy in accordance with Brooks Sports Inc. growth plan.
  • Seek input from global resources in sales, regional stakeholders, and consumer data when initiating the line planning process.
  • Prioritize product line key initiatives in accordance with brand growth plan. Present initiatives to key stakeholders andre-prioritize on an annually or bi-annual basis based on key market trends identified through market contact/research.
Product Briefing
  • Responsible for providing design and development with visual and factual consumer and marketplace cues to motivate and inspire them in the product process. This can be achieved through formal seasonal presentations and/or on-going informal interaction with the design and development team from line conceptualization to confirmation. Product briefs are also a tool to illustrate to internal stakeholders of the market demand for a specific product.
Product Confirmation
  • Serves as the principal point person within footwear in the product confirmation process. Works with product creation teams to make day-to-day product decisions. 
  • Works closely with the product creation team to establish final line planning, final application of color and assuring that product meets the strategic margin requirements in the merchandising the line. 
  • Influence the confirmation process to ensure products meet the needs of the consumer as outlined in the brief. 
Product Presentation
  • Responsible for the presentation of their product lines to consumers, major accounts, media, regional and corporate management and the Brooks sales force at seasonal prelines, freeze meetings and sales meetings. 
Product Pricing and Profitability
  • Responsible for the seasonal pricing structure of the footwear line and accountable, along with their development counterparts, for gross margin profitability in line with company profitability goals. 
Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business or a related field required
  • 3 – 5 years prior experience in bringing a footwear product line to market preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of the footwear product management process, retail environment and consumer buying habits
  • Business orientation preferred with demonstrated financial ability in managing gross margins, inventory, and costing
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills – skilled presenter
  • Proven ability to influence, persuade and negotiate to achieve progress toward goals
  • Results-oriented person with the ability to balance numerous tasks and utilize all available resources
  • Demonstrated ability to conceive/create new thinking and ideas pertaining to the consumer and the product line
  • Ability to work professionally and efficiently within the team and across departments
