Took this on my first marathon and had no hitches. The length was just right as it allowed complete movement but wasn't embarrassingly short. I wore these with UA 6in briefs, and didn't have any issues with the inside liner. I carried 3 GU gels in the back pocket during the race and didn't really notice them there, but at 4 gels you will feel it moving around. The little pocket inside was large enough to carry my card, car key, and a little cash. Oddly enough, nothing fell out until I finished the race (maybe from sitting down to stretch?) Either way, glad I bought these shorts, nice design, will probably buy another pair!

I have been a fan of the 5" essential run short since I first tried them last year. I wear them for training and racing. The fit is great, and the quality is solid, which I've come to expect from Brooks products. I am pleased to see the addition of new color offerings this spring. Now I can mix it up. I was excited to try these shorts. Great material, design, and fabric. I have one issue - the fabric bunches in the front, especially on the upper stride. While I'm not sure of the design solution, I would have liked a longer side vent as I feel some restriction.

I like these shorts because they perform like a much shorter pair of running shorts but my XC team doesn't get weirded out by the coaches short shorts. Also, they have a good sized pocket that fits keys or gels nicely if needed.
